Carina Round released her new album Tigermending on her own label, Dehisce, yesterday! We made it to the release show at The Casbah and snagged a few questions with the UK native before her set! Carina is raw, sexy and has just enough edge to keep you wanting more. Check out the album on her official website.

Holy Vintage Trouble, the most energetic show I’ve been to… ever. These guys are not only incredible musicians but they are tons of fun to work with. It was truly a pleasure. Please watch the video above and read my previous interview with Ty to learn about the backstory of “Nancy Lee” and so much more!
Also, check out the photos from the show here at MWL!

Japanther played an interesting show at Ché Cafe last night, or several if you care to get technical. Ian and Matt had to stop and restart their performance nearly 4 times before finishing their set inside the vegan student-run hut on UCSD campus. I’d seen Japanther in Brooklyn but I’d never been to Ché Cafe and to be honest I probably won’t return. It was just… weird. Maybe I’m getting old, maybe I’m an alcoholic, maybe the kids running the show don’t know audio, maybe I was comparing it too much to past Japanther experiences which were far better…. this dry shack of teenagers in ripped jeans did not hold up to my Saturday night standards. We did a quick interview with the guys then I scoured the neighborhood for a bar, guzzled booze until it was time for Japanther to take stage.
Katie: What is your favorite type of show to play?
Matt: A water show, either under water or floating on a raft or dock.
Ian: I like when there is no air and you’re gonna pass out and get a concussion.
K: Do you have a memorable show story?
M: In Long Beach a guy got completely naked and crowd surfed.
K: Did you get balls on you?
M: I did not get balls on me.
K: Any band rituals you’ve developed?
M: On this last tour we’ve been playing a lot of Would you rather?
I: You have to give an example…
M: Would you rather be pulled apart by horses or be crushed by rocks?
K: Horses, I don’t want to be stoned slowly…
M: It doesn’t have to be slowly… okay, would you rather be ripped apart by wolves or crushed in an avalanche?
K: That’s tough. Wolves are cool. I’d rather be eaten by wolves and die that way…
I: She’s a pulled apart lady…
M: She’s a definite pulled apart lady. It’s like a Rorschach test we’ve developed; it’s very telling about the personality. Not to get into details now.
K: What’s your spirit animal?
M: My spirit animal is half eagle half crocodile.
I: Mine is half rat, half giraffe. It’s called a girat.
M: Oh yeah wait, I’m taking mine back… Mine is half orangutan half pterodactyl it’s called orangadactyl.
I: Mine is a 1980 Eagle, an old car by International.
K: That’s your spirit animal?
I: Yeah it’s a car called an Eagle.
M: Mine is…. orangadactyl still.
