Carolina Story has a story, and it revolves primarily around love. Ben & Emily Roberts are two singer/songwriters from Arkansas and South Dakota who met at Visible Music College in Memphis in 2007. ”They began collaborating their musical styles and naturally fell in love.” After getting married by June 2009, the duo set off touring all over the US. 28 states and about 200 shows later, they came to realization that life is built on love and relationships. That’s what became their main influence for writing and playing music together as Carolina Story. Check out their live performance of “Carry Me Home.”
Like this one, “most of their songs have come from the people they have met or personal experiences, and translate into stories about the human condition that everyone can relate to.” This, my friends, is the foundation of folk music, and this is a truly authentic representation of it. Carolina Story has such a unique sound rooted in Folk/Americana/Old Country/Roots Music. Their harmonies are serenading and create a vibe that is very easy to listen to. Their live show not only rests on their voices and Ben’s guitar, but incorporates harmonicas, a kick drum and tambourines. This is a duo you don’t want to miss, and their latest album falls right along side acts like The Civil Wars and Good Old War. Home released in November of 2011 and you can watch them play “Help, Help Me” right here.
Their music covers a wide variety of audiences, as their sound drives hard at a roots/folk feel. Home features eight tracks including “Carry Me Home,” from the first video you watched above. Carolina story released “When The River Met The Sea” a year prior and was in turn chosen to be a part of Music City Unsigned, which promotes Nashville’s best emerging independent artists. Just last year, the duo was an official showcase artist for the 2012 Folk Alliance Conference and artist of the week on Nashville’s Lightning 100’s local spotlight. In addition, their album release was featured on Nashville’s Fox News and they were added to Brite Revolution’s group of talented artists. They continue to tour consistently to reach as many new listeners as possible and greet current fans in various corners of the country. Get yourself a listen to another song from Home titled “The Morning Bird.”
